Teeth Extractions in Vancouver
Teeth Extractions
Removing the teeth is typically a last resort, as it’s best to retain healthy and strong natural teeth whenever possible. It’s always our goal to pursue the most minimally invasive treatments possible. However, unexpected challenges can come up that make it more practical and effective to remove a tooth or multiple teeth. When this occurs, our Vancouver dentists are here to ensure you have a smooth experience from start to finish, including any restorations that you’ll need to fill in the gaps in your smile.
Reasons for Tooth Extractions
There are several reasons we may recommend having a tooth or teeth removed. One common reason is an infection that damages the tooth beyond repair. It may also be more economical and logical in the long term to remove teeth that are too damaged for lasting restorations. Finally, the incorrect eruption of some teeth in the mouth (such as the wisdom teeth) can cause potential future issues that are better corrected by immediate removal.
Why Wisdom Teeth Are Removed
The wisdom teeth (the backmost molars) tend to form and erupt in the mouth between the ages of 17 and 25, although some people do not have wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth do not always need to be removed, but they can cause or present potential issues, including a greater risk of infections in the mouth or overcrowding of the existing teeth. In these cases, we’ll carefully assess how the wisdom teeth are growing and what potential outcomes you may experience, and then provide you with information and options.
What to Expect During a Tooth Extraction
Tooth extraction can seem like an intimidating procedure, but in our experience, patients are typically surprised by how comfortable the experience is. You’ll be provided with a local anesthetic and made comfortable while we extract the tooth. Our team will carefully plan out the extraction before the procedure, ensuring we can remove the tooth quickly and easily.
