What Is Invisalign® Treatment? Clear Aligners At Downtown Dental

blue underline

Invisalign aligners are clear plastic trays that fit over your teeth. They work a little like traditional metal braces do, moving teeth into a straighter position gradually over time. However, while Invisalign aligners push teeth into place, braces pull them. And unlike braces, which are attached to the teeth for the entire treatment period, Invisalign aligners can be easily inserted and removed like retainers.

Whom Do We Treat With Invisalign® Aligners?

blue underline

Our Invisalign patients generally consist of teenagers and adults who are self-conscious about their smiles. They come to us with a variety of problems, including gaps between their teeth and crowded teeth. Some patients have bite problems, like overbites and underbites. Others simply want straighter teeth. Compared to procedures like bridges or veneers, Invisalign treatment is a relatively conservative way to treat all these conditions and improve your smile.

Some of our other patients have more complex oral issues they want to solve, but Invisalign isn’t always the right choice. While Invisalign treatment can achieve dramatic results, there are some limitations to what this orthodontic technique can achieve. If Invisalign treatment isn’t the right fit for you, we’ll happily refer you to an orthodontist who can provide a better solution.

The Invisalign® Treatment Process

The Invisalign treatment process starts with your initial consultation, where we’ll talk with you about your concerns and what you hope to achieve through Invisalign treatment. We’ll use our innovative iTero scanner to scan your mouth and determine whether you’re a good candidate for Invisalign.

As your Vancouver Invisalign provider, we determine if this treatment is a good fit for you. We will start to create your personalized treatment plan. At this time, we’ll determine whether you need buttons, which are temporary attachments on your teeth that help the aligners grip teeth more effectively and facilitate moving stubborn teeth into the desired location.

Next, we’ll create your first Invisalign aligners using the digital image from our iTero scanner. We’ll explain the treatment process and how the best results happen when you wear your aligners for between 20 and 22 hours every day.

Throughout your treatment period, you’ll receive new aligners that will help your teeth move closer to the goal alignment. You’ll see us regularly during your treatment so we can assess your progress and design your next aligners. Treatment periods will vary, depending on your age and how dramatic the adjustments are. However, most adults receive Invisalign treatment for around 12 months. Luckily, you usually won’t have to wait this long to see results, as most patients start to notice a real difference after about three months.

Wearing a retainer after Invisalign treatment helps preserve the results and prevent teeth from moving back to their original position. You should wear a retainer full time for the first three months after finishing your Invisalign treatment; after that, you should wear the retainer while you sleep.

Your Vancouver Invisalign ® Provider Explains Why You Should Get Clear Aligners

Invisalign aligners are virtually undetectable, so they’re a great option for people who would feel embarrassed wearing traditional metal braces.

While Invisalign braces move teeth, they don’t cause any permanent changes to the teeth themselves. That makes Invisalign a fairly conservative way to improve your smile rather than removing or shaving teeth. Plus, there’s no anaesthetic required for getting the aligners, and there’s also no downtime. You can get your new aligners during your lunch break and return to school or work straight away.

Unlike metal braces, Invisalign braces don’t physically attach to the teeth. And because the aligners should be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing, people with Invisalign also find it easier than those with braces to maintain good oral hygiene.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach with Invisalign. The aligners are customised to make only small, gradual adjustments to your mouth, so they’re usually much more comfortable and easier to get used to than regular braces. And you can start and stop Invisalign treatment at any time, increasing the convenience factor.

How Much Does Invisalign® Treatment Cost?

blue underline

The cost of Invisalign treatment varies among patients, depending on the severity of your dental issues and how long you’ll use the aligners. If your dental insurance plan covers orthodontic treatment, it may also pay for your Invisalign treatment, making treatment much more affordable.

As your Vancouver Invisalign provider here at Downtown Dental, we think everyone deserves to feel confident about their smile. That’s why we set our prices for Invisalign treatment in accordance with the British Columbia Dental Association fee guide. This is your guarantee our rates on Invisalign treatments are competitive.
